La nouvelle Mégane innove avec un certain nombre d'équipements, dont un son 3D couplé avec le système audio. Tout en conservant les haut-parleurs d'origine, il est possible de bénéficier d'une acoustique personnalisée. Par un traitement sophistiqué, qui repose sur des algorithmes, il est possible de modifier la diffusion du son dans l'habitacle. Le client a le choix entre deux modes d'écoute. S'il est seul, il lui suffit d'appuyer sur une touche. Le son du système audio sera alors diffusé face à lui, exactement comme si l'orchestre jouait de l'autre côté du pare-brise. En revanche, si on choisit le mode d'écoute avec plusieurs passagers, le son va être diffusé autrement, comme s'il enveloppait chacun des occupants de l'habitacle. En soi, ce n'est pas nouveau. Mais, la solution est plus économique qu'avec des installations audio haut de gamme (Harman Kardon, Bang & Olufsen). La qualité d'écoute est nettement supérieure à celle d'un autoradio classique et le système est proposé sur un modèle de grande diffusion : la Mégane.
Le procédé a été mis au point par Arkamys : une PME spécialisée dans le son. Elle a d'abord restauré le son de vieux films réédités en DVD, avant de travailler sur la spatialisation du son en 3D pour les téléphones mobiles.
Le son 3D par Arkamys est disponible sur toute la gamme Mégane, ainsi que sur le Coupé Laguna, dans lequel il est couplé avec une chaîne Bose pour un plus grand plaisir acoustique.

The article presents the « listen with your own ears » project. By appling the principles of psychoacoustics, Arkamys has succeeded in identifying the morphological characteristics that condition our listening experience, and is developing a system capable of personalizing the sounds heard through headphones depending on the morphology of each individual.

Premium sound systems are well and good for premium vehicles, but audio technology company Arkamys is taking cost out of mid to low-end sound systems by using software to recreate high quality sound with fewer speakers.
