2010 – 02 – 15, Paris – France – Arkamys announced today its audio features optimized for ARM Cortex-A9 Processors

Based on its expertise in audio software implementation, Arkamys, a member of the ARM Connected Community™, is now able to offer its successful algorithms for the ARM® Cortex™-A9 processor.

The libraries were optimized using the ARM RealView® Development Suite 4.0 Professional tools. Thanks to the ARM NEON™ compiler’s autovectorization technology, the libraries demonstrate better performance compared to hand-optimized assembler equivalent implementations for ARM11™ and ARM9E™ family processors. Moreover, these tools permit fixed-point C code to be efficiently ported five times faster than previously, leading to a reduced design time and accelerated time-to-market.

The outstanding performance gains, combined with Arkamys’ device fine-tuning skills now enable handsets and portable devices to fully benefit from high-end 3D audio effects and surround sound.

Arkamys is nominated for the “The Embedded Systems Trophy” in the category Consumer Electronics for its innovative audio solution. The product, “Sound Staging”, is a software which significantly improves the listening comfort in cars by creating an outstanding sound image that gives a natural impression of spaciousness and true surrounds. The entirely software-based solution also allows considerably reducing tuning time as well as guaranteeing an equally high audio quality with a reduced number of speakers. Arkamys currently equips several Renault models like the new Mégane and Laguna and more manufacturers will follow in 2010.
The competition “The Embedded Systems Trophies 2009” is organized by SYNTEC Informatique (French association of the software and computing services companies) and CAP’TRONIC with the support of the French Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Employment. It recognizes and awards outstanding projects of companies which have developed and produced one or several embedded systems using a software component which is predominant and particularly innovative.
The trophies are awarded on the occasion of the 2. Franco-German Embedded Systems Convention on June 9, 2009.

2009 – 04 – 01, Paris, France and Wetzlar, Germany: Arkamys and the Continental Automotive Group announced an agreement to integrate Phantom Tweeters, a digital sound processing technology in Continental mass production radio solution for car manufacturers.

The quality of sound in a car is usually measured by the number and power of speakers. Continental and Arkamys have enabled those models which are equipped with low speaker setups (without tweeters) to afford best of breed listening experience. To provide democratic cars with superior sound while bearing with cost constrains, Continental has embedded Arkamys Sound Staging software in its platform for OEM customers. The Arkamys Sound Staging software provides a natural spaciousness and accurate timber reproduction without physical tweeters.

The Arkamys software lifts the sound image in front of the listener, giving the illusion that sound sources have been placed in front of the windscreen. The solution drastically enhances audio rendering, making a pair of wide range loudspeakers comparable to a standard system including physical tweeters. Arkamys Phantom Tweeters not only helps reducing the Bill Of Materials and installation but also provides car interiors with a better audio rendering.

While Continental car audio specialists were in charge of the integration, Arkamys engineers tuned the system to each specific car interior, to provide all car models with the same ideal sound signature. The result is a sound system with perfect acoustical integration, bringing to the passengers an unparalleled and previously unthinkable musical experience in this type of cars.

2009 – 03 – 30 , Paris, France and Hildesheim Germany : Arkamys and the Robert Bosch GmbH announced an agreement between the two companies to integrate Sound Staging, a digital sound processing technology with Bosch mass production radio solution for use by a leading European car manufacturers.

Vehicle interior experience is a major concern for car manufacturers, and the quality of sound is amongst the most critical factors. Providing accurate and comfortable sound in a car interior is a complicated task, even for sound engineers who need to bear physical constrains such as the shape of the car’s interior. Cost constrains, especially on middle range cars, prevent manufacturers from increasing the number of speakers, making the job even more difficult.

To provide an adapted solution, Bosch has selected Sound Staging, a technology developed by Arkamys, for application in a platform for its OEM customers.

The Arkamys Sound Staging software provides a natural spaciousness with a lifted front scene and accurate timber reproduction. This sensation is achieved by processing the audio samples without changing the loudspeakers setup, allowing Bosch engineers to provide its client with an immersive sound experience while complying with the existing speaker setup.

While Bosch car audio specialists were in charge of the integration, Arkamys engineers tuned the system to each specific car interior, to provide all car models with the same ideal sound signature, comparable in quality with the experience procured by cars equipped with a higher standard speakers system.

The result is a sound system with perfect acoustical integration, bringing to the passengers an unparalleled and previously unthinkable musical experience in this type of cars.

With the premiere of the third-generation Scénic and Grand Scénic during the Geneva Motor Show, the number of Renault models benefiting from Arkamys’ digital sound processing solutions grows further.
