Binaural Listening: ARKAMYS’ participation to BiLi project

ARKAMYS has collaborated on a 3 years research project on Binaural Listening: the BiLi project with France Televisions, Radio France, Orange, IRCAM, Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris - CNSMDP, CNRS/LIMSI, Trinnov Audio, A-volute. This contributed to VR-Play for VR.

ARKAMYS has collaborated on a 3 years research project on Binaural Listening:  the BiLi project .

Binaural listening aims to reproduce a natural listening experience when listening over headset so that we perceive sounds in space, all around us, just like we do with our two ears.

How?

By reproducing the indices used by our brain to localize sounds in space : the propagation delay differences  between our two ears and the filtering caused by the shape of our ears, head and torso.

Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs) are the key elements of this filtering.

The BiLi project focused on methods to capture individual HRTFs, methods to render a personalized binaural listening accordingly and methods to evaluate the Quality of Experience.

It also focused on the promotion of the SOFA format, a new international  standard for storing spatially oriented acoustic data.

The BiLi team was composed of France Televisions, Radio France, Orange, IRCAM, Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris – CNSMDP, CNRS/LIMSI, Trinnov Audio, A-volute and ARKAMYS.

ARKAMYS contribution to the project has allowed us to create VR-Play, one of the software modules of our VR 360 Audio Suite solution.

This work has been funded by La Mairie de Paris.
