HOW TO BUILD A LESS THAN 99$ AMBISONIC MICROPHONE – Episode 2

Here is the Episode 2 of the ARKAMYS short stories. This second step consists in creating a mechanical design to have the ST microphones on a sphere

The ST MP34DT01 microphones must be positioned in a sphere.

They are located at 0°/ 90°/ 180°/ 270°.

We have created a small microphone mechanical design.

The challenges are :

  • being able to plug the ST microphones without adding screw
  • using the – as small as possible – space
  • having enough space to add wires (connection between the microphones and the development board)
  • being compatible with the standard microphone stands

 

The next steps are :

  • Running in lab acoustical measurement of the mechanical design including the 4 microphones
  • Developping a dedicated software to transform the 4 microphones RAW data into ambisonic B-FORMAT data
