Our Story

From Paris recording studios to the road, Arkamys has always been about making sound feel better.

We didn’t start in a car. We started in a studio, the legendary Château d’Hérouville near Paris, where David Bowie, Elton John, and Pink Floyd, and so many others once recorded.

In 1998, a team of acoustic researchers and composers founded Arkamys and patented a proprietary spatialization process. By 2004, we had remastered over 200 films into multichannel audio.

Then came the question that changed everything: where do people actually listen to music every day? The answer was the car. In 2008, our first automotive partnership launched with Renault — and we never looked back.

1998
Arkamys is founded in Paris by acoustic researchers and composers, with a patented approach to spatial audio.

2001
The team moves into the legendary Château d’Hérouville and applies its technology to film remastering.

After more than 200 films remastered into multichannel audio, Arkamys expands into automotive, home entertainment, and mobile.

2005–2012

Arkamys delivers its first major consumer electronics project with the Archos 604 media player.

2008
Arkamys enters the automotive world with Renault, bringing spatialized sound to the Mégane and Laguna.

2010
Arkamys expands across PSA and Nissan vehicles and mobile platforms, including Samsung Galaxy Tab and Android integration.

2013–2017

2014
Arkamys opens a regional office in Shanghai, strengthening its presence in the Chinese market.

2015
New collaborations with SAIC and Škoda bring Arkamys audio technology to more vehicle programs.

2017
With new offices in Tokyo and Seoul, Arkamys reaches 10 million vehicles equipped worldwide.

2018–2022

2018
Expansion continues across global automotive programs, including Mahindra, MG, and Hyundai vehicles.

The company reaches 50 million equipped vehicles, and opens offices in Frankfurt one year later.

You can also check your audio settings menu or owner’s manual. If you’re still unsure, your dealership can confirm it — though in most cases Arkamys is not separately branded.

  What does Arkamys actually do to the sound in my car?

Arkamys improves the whole in-car audio experience through software. As a B2B provider, it licenses its technology to car manufacturers, who build it into the vehicle at the factory. On the entertainment side, its enhancement technology delivers deeper bass, a wider soundstage, and balanced sound for every seat. It also manages unwanted noise: Road Noise Cancellation cuts rolling and structural noise in real time, Engine Noise Cancellation removes powertrain harmonics, and Personal Surround creates an immersive bubble for each occupant. All of this runs purely in software, using the speakers already in your vehicle.

Yes, in several ways. Depending on your vehicle’s configuration, you may have access to Ambiences — curated listening atmospheres from Natural and Dynamic to Cinema, Live, or Club/Beat. SoundZone sets different audio for different zones in the car, while Personal Surround creates an immersive bubble around each occupant. Through the Arkamys App, you can choose themed profiles for sports, movies, podcasts, wellness, and more, or unlock new experiences as Features-on-Demand from your infotainment screen. Traditional controls also remain, so you can still fine-tune bass, mid, and treble or adjust balance and fader.

  What about EV?

Electric vehicles change the acoustic equation in two ways, and Arkamys addresses both. The silence of an EV cabin is an opportunity: without engine noise masking the audio, Arkamys’ enhancement software delivers a noticeably richer, more immersive experience. That same silence is also a challenge, as noises once masked by the engine become audible — here Arkamys’ SDEC/NDEC technologies dynamically compensate to keep the sound balanced.

Yes. Arkamys solutions are hardware-agnostic and modular, integrating smoothly into existing vehicle platforms without dedicated DSP hardware or extra components.   Can Arkamys solutions be updated after vehicle production?

Yes. Because Arkamys technology is entirely software-based, it is fully compatible with over-the-air updates. OEMs can improve audio performance, add features, or unlock premium experiences after the vehicle leaves the production line, with no hardware intervention — though delivery relies on the OEM’s own over-the-air infrastructure. This makes Arkamys a natural fit for software-defined vehicles, where the car keeps evolving long after purchase.
