A Look Back at Our Story

Arkamys has always moved with the times. Each time a new format or technology emerged, we found ways to adapt and explore what sound could become in that space. From film to mobile to automotive, we’ve followed the evolution of audio closely, and helped shape it along the way. 

This timeline doesn’t include everything we’ve done. There’s simply too much to fit. but it highlights the key moments that defined who we are today.

1998–2004 | Origins

1998 – Arkamys is founded in Paris by a team of acoustic researchers and composers. The company patents a unique spatialization process, our own proprietary upmixing technology. This technology first debuts in the DVD release of Luc Besson’s Subway. 

2001 – Arkamys moves into the legendary Château d’Hérouville, remastering over 200 films into multichannel audio. Titles include Dirty Dancing, Bagdad Café, Tex Avery, Peau d’Âne, La Gloire de mon Père, and many more. 

2004 – A pivotal year. Arkamys relocates to the Champs-Élysées and enters new markets: automotive, home entertainment, and mobile. The mission: make sound more immersive, enjoyable, and real. 

2005–2007 | Consumer Electronics

2005 – First major consumer electronics project: Archos 604 media player. 

2006 – Air France selects Arkamys to enhance inflight music. SAGEM licenses Arkamys tech to improve headphone audio in its My700x mobile phone. 

2007 – Arkamys and LIMSI unveil the “Listen With Your Own Ears” project. 

2008–2012 | Breaking into Automotive

2008Arkamys makes its automotive debut with Renault. The Mégane and Laguna become the first cars to feature spatialized Arkamys sound: 3D Sound by Arkamys. 

2009 – Expansion into Asia: Renault Samsung Motors (RSM) launches the SM3 with “3D Sound by Arkamys”. Arkamys hires its first overseas staff in Seoul. 

2010 – Arkamys enters the PSA Group. Peugeot 508, Citroën C4, and DS4 integrate Arkamys audio. Samsung selects Arkamys for the Galaxy Tab, and Arkamys audio is ported to the Android platform. 

2011Arkamys collaborates with Kia Rio and integrates the Virtual Sound solution.  

2013–2016 | New Frontiers

2014 – Arkamys opens a regional office in Shanghai, deepening its presence in China. 

2015 – First collaborations with SAIC brands: MG GS integrates Arkamys tech. The Arkamys Surround Sound Package is integrated into the Skoda Rapid and Fabia. 

2016 – Roewe RX5, Peugeot 3008, and Renault Mégane Sedan roll out with immersive Arkamys sound. The company also pioneers early 360° spatial audio experiences for VR. 

2017–2019 | Global Growth

2017 – Arkamys opens an office in Tokyo and a Korean subsidary in Seoul. Milestone: 10 million vehicles on the road feature Arkamys solutions. Key launches include Hyundai Verna, Renault Koleos, Tucson, MG 6, Roewe i6, ERX5, and RX3. 

2018 – Sound systems integrated into Mahindra XUV500, MG ZS, and Hyundai Elite i20. 

2019 – Vehicle integration reaches 50 million units. Maruti Jimny, Kia Seltos, Venue, i10, and Grand i10 join the Arkamys portfolio. 

2020–2022 | Innovation Lab

2020 – Launch of the Arkamys Audio Lab in Asnières-sur-Seine, France. New office opens in Frankfurt. Audio integrated into Maruti Dzire, Renault Captur, Hyundai Creta, i20, Aura, and Sonet. 

2022 – Detroit office opens. Arkamys earns A-SPICE Level 2 certification and ISO 9001. Expands with Renault Arkana, Peugeot 308, Leapmotor C01, DS7, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyryder, XL6, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Glanza, and Nissan Sylphy. 

2023

CES 2023 – Arkamys partners with Dolby Atmos and publicly showcases immersive in-car audio for the first time. 

New integrations: Maruti Fronx, Toyota Corolla Rumion, Leapmotor C11, NIO ES6/ES8/EC6, DS 9, Peugeot 408/5008, Opel Grandland, Jeep Avenger, Jeep Compass, Fiat 600, Alpine A110/A290GT. 

 

2024

Arkamys reaches 100 million vehicles equipped worldwide. Opens a new office in New Delhi and Shenzhen. Recognized with a Silver Medal by EcoVadis for sustainability. 

New integrations: Maruti Swift, DS8, Dacia Bigster, Duster 3rd Gen, Maruti Dzire (5th Gen), Taisor, Swift (4th Gen), Nissan Magnite, Peugeot E3008, ROX 01 (Jishi), Alfa Romeo Junior. 

2025

CES 2025 – First public showcase with DSP Concepts Team. 

Arkamys obtains TISAX certification for information security in automotive. 

Upcoming vehicle collaborations include: Honda S7, Honda P7, DS 8 with Focal and the next-gen MG5 EV.
