beyerdynamic, From Studio to Car Cabin

Automotive audio: the next logical step for beyerdynamic

When it comes to high-quality audio, few brands can compete with beyerdynamic. With a heritage spanning over a century in the production of microphones, headphones and studio equipment, they have earned their reputation in some of the world’s most demanding acoustic spaces – from iconic concert stages to silent mixing rooms.

But now? They’re taking the fist steps into the world of automotive audio.

And these steps offer exciting new possibilities.

An Acoustic Balancing Act

Sound engineers spend years perfecting the art of sculpting sound in a studio. They control, test and tune every surface, every reflection and every frequency ripple until nothing is left to chance.

In a car, all these control mechanisms disappear instantly.

The cabin of a car is probably one of the most challenging acoustic spaces a sound engineer can deal with.

It’s small, oddly shaped, and filled with hard, reflective materials. The curved shape of the cabin helps to break standing waves, but it also makes the sound quite unpredictable. There are no parallel walls. No consistent listening position. And the speaker layout? Is up to the manufacturer. Most are hidden in the doors, low down at foot level. Sometimes, a few tweeters are vaguely directed towards the head – but rarely at the same distance or in the same direction.

Sound rarely travels cleanly or equally to all passengers.

For most, the cabin is an almost impossible environment to tame. But for Arkamys, it is the field they know best. Over decades, they’ve built expertise in understanding and adapting to these constraints, turning what seems like a limitation into an opportunity for immersion.

beyerdynamic was aware of this challenge- but still said "Let’s do it!“

A car has never just been a means of getting from A to B. It’s a personal listening space for music, podcasts and phone calls. For many of us, it’s where we listen most attentively, sometimes for hours a day.

beyerdynamic saw an opportunity – not only to get a foothold in the automotive industry, but also to raise the bar.

Rather than despairing at the acoustic challenges, they quickly started treating it as a new kind of studio, with its own distinctive characteriscs. Of course, the flexibility and user-friendliness that distinguish beyerdynamic’s premium headphones also played a key role in this process.

Nowadays, high-quality sound is no longer tied to expensive home systems. It is mobile. It is flexible. People expect great sound at their desks, on their way to work, and even in their cars. For a brand that has always served both creatives and audiophiles, this move is not a reorientation. It’s the next logical step in their philosophy of bringing high-quality sound to all spheres of everyday life.

Arkamys x beyerdynamic

To bring this philosophy to life, beyerdynamic has teamed up with Arkamys, the global leader in advanced automotive audio software. It is a collaboration built on shared values of sound integrity and innovation.

This is where Arkamys’ strength lies: making sense of one of the most unpredictable acoustic environments. With decades of experience in the car cabin, they know how to turn reflections, asymmetry, and complex layouts into a soundstage that feels natural and immersive.

With over 100 million vehicles equipped worldwide, Arkamys has the software expertise to bring beyerdynamic’s sound identity into mobility, using the vehicle’s existing head unit, amplifiers, and speakers. Thanks to centralized architecture, the system adapts to each cabin, ensuring that the beyerdynamic signature is experienced authentically on the road.

The first result of this partnership will debut at IAA Mobility 2025

The first result of this collaboration is unveiled at IAA Mobility 2025. At the Arkamys booth, visitors can step inside a show car to experience the beyerdynamic sound signature for the very first time in an automotive setting.

The system features three exclusive modes, Studio, Live, and Podcast, offering different sound worlds shaped by beyerdynamic’s century of expertise. Each mode is finely tuned by Arkamys to ensure balance, immersion, and clarity across every seat.
